Leslé Honoré Poetry

We are leaning into hope
Draping ourselves in faith
Holding in tension
Who we have been
And who we dream of becoming
We are leaning into our birthright
Our bloodright
Our ancestors’ land
Our ancestors’ torture
Our ancestors’ survival
It’s no little thing to see yourself
Where you’ve never seen yourself
It’s no little thing to look at daughters
And say
Your grandmother
Couldn’t vote
Until
1964
couldn’t own
A home
A bank account
A credit card
In HER name until
1974
And now in
2024
We will march into voting booths
And see ourselves on the ballot
For President of the United States

So we are leaning into hope
Draping ourselves in faith
Doing the thing that fear
Anger
And hate
Tells us not to do
We are dreaming
Of a more perfect union
We are reaching for light
In the darkness
We are re writing the
American Dream

Brown Girl, Brown Girl
What do you see
I see a President that looks like me

A very well written piece of poetry that makes one think how far women have come, how much they have accomplished but how long the road ahead is and how many obstacles are thrown on our path to equality and the full recognition to be on eye level with those that don't endorse that right.
