Black and white houses, Herefordshire, England

Lovely houses in an English village. Miss Marples would feel quite at home.

I love the quaintness of the English countryside, and that of Scotland as well.

@samueltyler2 I can describe Scotland. The coastal areas in the south and east are fertile and well farmed - and have been for thousands of years. the west and north west is barren and sad - emptied of the indigenous population to a large degree. The central belt is the urban area- that's where the bulk of the population lives.

@helensusanswift are homes pretty much as they were many years ago? Low ceilings, no central HVAC, warm hearths. The TV series All Creatures Large and Small, I know the Details c Martin is in England, but the same there. Are the locals as seemingly organized, around a local pub?

@samueltyler2 In Scotland? No - most homes have central heating, double glazing and so on. Very few lack these basic amenities. Pubs are important, but Scotland is vastly different from England.

@helensusanswift i assume the modern homes do, but how about those in your images.

@samueltyler2 They'll have been modernised inside. I don't know anybody who still lives in 18th or 19th century conditions.

@helensusanswift funny, i kind of wished the didn't modernize. My first trip to the UK, i had to put a tuppence piece into a room heater in the room I rented.

@samueltyler2 There is a desire for retro among quite a number of people, but still with modern amenities,
