I don't understand how the visible electromagnetic spectrum starts with red but ends in violet, which is blue and red mixed together

So it starts with red and finishes with half-red.

How is that possible?

there's a distinction between purple and violet (which is really more like just a super dark blue).
purple doesn't really exist as a color the way the others do. purple is just your brain trying to say 'this is everything but green here.'

there's no wavelength for purple.
