I don't understand how the visible electromagnetic spectrum starts with red but ends in violet, which is blue and red mixed together
So it starts with red and finishes with half-red.

I don't have a full answer, but I do recall an encyclopedia article I glanced at as a kid.
The rules we learn about combining colors apply to pigments. But the rules for combining light are actually different.
I'm too lazy to look it up now, but I think that is the crux of the explanation.
