Sissy was the hero tonight

So after our oldest boy who I have now realized is the only one I don't have a nickname for, so from now on when I talk about him I will call him Link, was in recovery and starting to wake up the doctor came in and said they needed to do some blood work before they could send him home. Blood work is a huge fear of his. He is not an easy stick and they usually have to attempt more than once to get blood. We were hoping this would be done while he was still sleepy from the anesthesia but no he was awake. I'm not sure why they waited so long to get his blood.

And it was traumatic. Joel held him in his arms while the techs attempted to get his blood. It took three tries and by the time they were done he was in tears and was crying and calling out very loudly. He was so upset another doctor came in the room just to make sure everything was okay. He got so worked up and upset that they actually talked about keeping him overnight. There was no way we were going to let that happen. We finally got them calm down. And they let us go home.

Of course after the surgery he is not allowed to put any weight on his foot for at least a week or two. So we were trying to figure out the best way to keep him comfortable. Where he would sleep and what was the best way for us to take care of him. We even talked about letting him sleep in our bed.

When we got home we noticed one of Sissy's bean bag chair from downstairs was in the living room. It was decorated with lots of drawings and get well cards from her and Tiny tornado and everyone else in the house. All Mario and Link themed.

Sissy is always been very protective of her things. She likes things neat and organized and obviously her brothers are not quite as careful as she is.

We were very grateful for her to do this and we set up the bean bag chair so we could put him in it. Of course he was very tired and in and out of it when we got home. He did eat dinner and drink some apple juice.

But then the major storm kind of blew through and knocked out the Wi-Fi and cable so we were unable to watch the show he wanted to. It was probably a good thing because he kept dozing off. So instead he played his Nintendo games off and on for a while. A bit before bedtime he told me that he was tired and asked me to put his switch up and to get him a stuffed animal so he could go to sleep.

Sissy said Daddy I got this. She went in her room and brought out a stuffed animal and gave it to him. It made his night he pulled it close and cuddled up with it as I tucked him in.

Of course with the storm's coming in and out tonight tiny tornado was very scared and I had to hold him most of the night as well. He was very unsure about sleeping in his room alone. Joel has asleep on the couch and I plan on staying up to watch Link.

And once again sissy stepped up and said you can sleep in my room as long as you promise not to touch anything. So we made a pallet for him on the floor and he slept in her room.

This was a very big night for her sharing her bean bag chair, a favorite stuffed toy and allowing her brother to sleep in her room tonight.

Poor Joel was absolutely drained emotionally and physically. So he finally agreed to take some anxiety medicine and he dozed off on the couch. I told him I would stay up and watch Link throughout the night to make sure that he was comfortable, gotten any pain and dry all night.

So he's home he's sleeping and everything is calm right now. My buddy says he'll get up around 2 o'clock and take over so I can get some sleep as well.

This family of mine coming together to help everyone.

Yes, you'd think they could figure out a way to get what they need for blood work that was less invasive, especially for little ones. I'm glad everything is copacetic.

Also very randomly, after I read this post, I pictured that scene in Jurassic Park where Dr. Grant has the kids next to him as he holds them to sleep after a most arduous evening. A most peaceful thought. ✌

@Levenrack I just don't understand why they couldn't do it but he still had the IV in his arm before they removed it. But it's a new day and our boy seems very happy today.

They did not have a port in him? When i had my surgery they had one in each hand. They could draw blood and give meds.
In the middle of the night a nurse came in to draw blood and she stuck me. I was not thrilled but she did a good job. I hate needles.
Cigarguys · 41-45, C
@Confined yes and no when we got there they used a 'nose iv' to give him meds to calm him down. Once he was in the OR they gave him a regular IV during the surgery. Both of these were removed once he was in recovery. I'm not sure why. The blood work request was almost done last minute as we were about to leave.
Just how a family should be, but too often isn’t.

Sissy is one heck of a wonderful sister. It comes to show how much she deeply cares for her siblings.
Cigarguys · 41-45, C
@Barefooter25 it was so sweet of her to step up and help her younger brother. And Tiny tornado get his word he did not touch anything in her room. It was a good thing he did sleep in there we had more storms rolled through last night

What an awesome family and a wonderful night. I hope everyone is feeling better this morning. I especially loved the camping part. Lol!!!
Cigarguys · 41-45, C
@Musicman we are all a little tired still but doing well. Most importantly he had a peaceful night and didn't wake up once. He's up now and Joel is getting him cleaned up and ready for the day. He seems back to his sweet self today and wants to play Mario kart with me in a little while
