Came home to a calm house

We came home to a very calm house. The boys were playing on the Lego table, Sissy was in the sensory room and my buddy was finishing up dinner. I sat down on the couch. The room was spinning and I was very nauseous. I was waiting for the meds they gave me to kick in. I hear the boys greeting Joel. I hear them teasing him because he smells like meat. They always do when he gets home from work., until he takes a shower.

Then I hear Joel say go show Daddy.

I hear our oldest boy say Daddy I have a surprise for you.

I'm dizzy I don't feel good. But when your son says he has a surprise you suck it up and look to see what he's showing me.

He proudly shows me he's wearing his AFO'S.

Oh wow kiddo.

I don't like them he says.

I know but I'm so glad you are wearing them.

I did because of you.

Me

Yeah cause you hate the ER but you went. So I wanted to be like you.

Yep I'm crying

That's great that he understands that, sometimes, you have to do things that you don't like - and he was able to see that you did something that you don't like... so he can do something he doesn't like, too.

The fact that you were so open with him about "Dad doesn't like ER, but he's going anyway" is obviously something he sat with and realised "If Dad can do that thing he doesn't like, I can do this thing that I don't like".

It's a great way that you demonstrated this and inspired him to follow your lead.

@HootyTheNightOwl this makes everything I'm going through worth it.

So wonderful! When you are the example who inspires a child to do the right thing!

@Poppies I wasn't prepared for him to say that to me.
