I suspect that it works like that all over social media. I started chatting online on IRC back in ‘95 or ‘96 and we didn’t have profile photos but having a female-sounding handle was enough to stand out. I don’t believe that things have changed.

@Chiefjustice That might just be the nature of men. It becomes problematic when they drop common courtesy and respect. Speaking for myself and my personal experience.

@Jennifer I suppose, this is when we draw a line between humans and animals, our intellect differentiates and separates us from those who dont poses it.
Right, agreed!

I was there. Back on the soc. boards. I hung out on the science/hardware/software boards, before tcp/ip became part of the Windows stack and sending a picture, meant downloading a bunch of 7-bit encoded messages, re-assembling them, and then decoding an image, still anyone with a female sounding name, got all the attention.
Nothing really changed, it's now easier given that you don't really need an email.
Sad to see grown men fall for this.

Wow I was literally JUST thinking two minutes ago after seeing a woman getting tons of replies from men, niiice. I can post music clips or other posts and get like two or zero replies, but showing skin will get thirty. But do I truly want replies/guys who are interested in just aesthetics or vanity?? No ... Not really 😟
Chiefjustice · 46-50, M
@Baybreeze Unfortunately this is the problem. I am struggling to understand.

But they are so se sweet and they love me because I’m so old😂😂
akindheart · 70-79, F
men are visual creatures. but yeah, some of the comments are downright creepy but if the pic warrants it, why are we expecting anything less?
Chiefjustice · 46-50, M
@akindheart I totally agree, we are visual creatures, this is how just our brains are wired/our biology works, however, there needs to be a regulator which controls that function lol and you see these old men commenting on young girls like no tomorrow, and most are bloody fake.

Chiefjustice · 46-50, M
@JimboSaturn Yep, and I wonder what happens to ther ability to think and analyze what has been put before them? Like wtf dude.
JimboSaturn · 56-60, M
@Chiefjustice I have a feeling they know the profiles are fake but are playing along for fun.

@Magenta yep! Some, not all here act as if that is all they are living for!
Magenta · F
@Chiefjustice Like their whole existence is waiting for the next "woman" to post a photo.
It's also why compliments mean little to me, here, unless it's from a very select few.

Says the guy with a sad misogynist picture for his profile photo, adapted to go after Taft...
