@bowman81 I've seen Dogs Playing Poker. Used as a cover for a Jackson Pollack graphic worth millions in the film The Accountant.
I appreciate it for its history... but I seen different versions that taking in to consideration my future bathroom wall...are a bit different. They appeal to me in different ways.
@Punxi I don't see any correlation between this and the poker-playing dogs. And I'm not sure HEAVY METAL was low-brow. To dismiss sci-0fi fantasy art as low-brown would also dismiss Dali, Breugel, etc. because of their imaginations.
@ChipmunkErnie Well sir... having exhasted my elaborations of just what I, as a fan...long time..up there in the title i think, perhaps Id suggest Google.
Of take a trip to SoCal.
Now....Dail is considered Surrealism. Low brow is also sureal.
In diferent ways.
I use the Sifi examples because well Ive a few coffee tabe books depicting...anybody...anybody...low brow art. On lots of thos big glossy pages...sifi book covers.
@Punxi I learn something new here everyday. I actually didn’t realize "lowbrow" defined a specific genre of art—I thought the general definition (unsophisticated, not intellectual) applied—with the caveat that it’s never been a deal-breaker for me. I see comic books as "lowbrow" entertainment, but I enjoy and collect them just the same (my favorites are "Ghost Comics"). And the black light posters my generation loved were definitely considered lowbrow (and some were pretty basic):
But they were a cherished part of my teenage years. 😊
