"Before and after" what, though?

@ArishMell What would you say came before and between those? What does it look like? Before and after pride.

@Therealsteve Sorry, I don't see the point you are trying to make.

I don't have a great deal of admiration for the self-styled "pride" lot, as like many campaigns it seems all a bit self-important, but neither am I homophobic.

If I were lying badly injured on the ground, being treated by a St. John's Ambulance Brigade member, I would have no idea if he or she could march in step nor of his or her sexuality - not my business and it would not matter in the slightest.

Similarly when at work I was sent on first-aid courses run by the SJAB, I could have had no idea of the tutor's parade ability or sexual orientation: not my business and it would not have mattered at all.

Why should it matter?

@ArishMell Ask them that :D

@Therealsteve Oh, really.....

@ArishMell Well yes, they are putting this pride all over their stuff, ask them what they prideful of.

@Therealsteve The charity does have plenty to be proud of, and we should be proud such charities exist, but I do find the "Pride Movement" all rather self-important.

Campaigns like that should be concentrating on trying to educate cultures in which oppression based on sex and sexual orientation, mysogymy, racism, disability discrimination and religious hatred still fester. Though it would be a hard battle, even dangerous, in many places.

I think the SJAB means it treats anyone injured, and welcomes anyone as members, or trains anyone in first-aid; without immature prejudice; but most services, businesses, charities, clubs etc. act in similarly non-prejudical ways without waving slogans about.

And let's face it, if sporting Pride badges is merely a side-show to saving lives, so is military-style marching: neither activity really matters to treating the injured, but also do no harm.

I am vaguely bisexual but I'd never wear rainbows or go on "Pride" displays. I am just... me!
