Sharing Yesteryear With You

I'd love to share "my day" memories with you. I wish you could have experienced them with me. You missed so much, therefore, I invite you to reminisce with me, so I can share those moments with you now. I'll add one each day. Thank you.

It was called the "Sky View Drive-In", in Belleville, Illinois. We would drive in the entrance and bring snacks with us sometimes like popcorn, and some kids would sneak in by hiding in the trunk, so they wouldn't have to pay extra for these people.

There was a little green brick house in the back behind the parking lot with a movie projector that showed the movie on the huge Drive-In screen. There were a lot of teenagers that missed the show because they were busy "smooching". Hahaha

In that little brick house in the back, you could get out of your car at intermission time and by snacks like popcorn, candy bars, and fountain drinks. Oh, the wonderful aroma of huge bags of real buttered popcorn you could buy, as it filled the air! A lot of people would bring their lawn chairs and sit out front of their cars and there were little speakers that were so cute you would take off the hook and roll your window up just a tad and let them hang on your window for sound. And you could turn up the volume. There were two speakers, one for the driver's side and passenger.

Right before the movie would start, all the kids would go up to the front by the screen and they had lots of swings there that were very tall and it was so much fun to sit in them and swing towards the screen and there were different commercials and things going on, on the screen and sometimes they would show a little cartoon or show you what was back at the snack bar and it was really cute. Then when the show started, we would all go back to the car and some would sit on the hood of the car on each side and watch the movie under the stars and it was just magic, so wonderful. Sometimes friends would drive up there together in their own cars and park next to each other and each row had a rising "bump" you drove up on in order to get a good view of the huge picture show. But only the front end would be parked on that bump. Hahaha It was so much fun for all.

Thank you, that was a great time!! Reminiscing the smell of the concession stand, I can still smell it.
Oh, remember not only the teens behind the building missing the show, the lad that was lucky enough to have dad let him take his girlfriend to the show in the station wagon??
@Quimliqer Yes! And don't forget the kids who sneaked into the drive-in by hiding in the trunk so they wouldn't have to pay. Hahaha and sometimes we would sit on the hood of the car and watch the movie that was so so much fun! And sometimes you would see people making out in the backseat of another car. "Necking" lol

@LadyGrace For sure!!
@Quimliqer
Didn't they like come around with flashlights and shine them in cars if they didn't see two heads above the seat? Hahaha they were very strict about that and even I knew what was going on though I was just a little kid when the drive-ins came about. I sure did love driving into that Circle Drive and paying the little guy in the booth and then driving around the big screen. Boy that sure was a big screen. Hahaha it looked like a giant. And the food was absolutely always good! The nice hot hot dogs with mustard and cheese, wow! And the little trays they gave you for the food. It was just all so cool. I want to go now! Hahaha
@Quimliqer yes, I can still smell that aroma that lingered through the whole Drive-In from that concession stand. Hahaha
And it was so much fun, sitting out under the stars and don't forget the old mosquito bomb guy who would come through the parking lot up and down before the movie started. Hahaha I also remember enjoying the looking back at the lights from the movie screen stream through the air. It was just the coolest thing ever. Did you roller skate back in those days? I loved going to the roller rink! Right by my house!
