Sharing Yesteryear With You
I'd love to share "my day" memories with you. I wish you could have experienced them with me. You missed so much, therefore, I invite you to reminisce with me, so I can share those moments with you now. I'll add one each day. Thank you.
It was called the "Sky View Drive-In", in Belleville, Illinois. We would drive in the entrance and bring snacks with us sometimes like popcorn, and some kids would sneak in by hiding in the trunk, so they wouldn't have to pay extra for these people.
There was a little green brick house in the back behind the parking lot with a movie projector that showed the movie on the huge Drive-In screen. There were a lot of teenagers that missed the show because they were busy "smooching". Hahaha
In that little brick house in the back, you could get out of your car at intermission time and by snacks like popcorn, candy bars, and fountain drinks. Oh, the wonderful aroma of huge bags of real buttered popcorn you could buy, as it filled the air! A lot of people would bring their lawn chairs and sit out front of their cars and there were little speakers that were so cute you would take off the hook and roll your window up just a tad and let them hang on your window for sound. And you could turn up the volume. There were two speakers, one for the driver's side and passenger.
Right before the movie would start, all the kids would go up to the front by the screen and they had lots of swings there that were very tall and it was so much fun to sit in them and swing towards the screen and there were different commercials and things going on, on the screen and sometimes they would show a little cartoon or show you what was back at the snack bar and it was really cute. Then when the show started, we would all go back to the car and some would sit on the hood of the car on each side and watch the movie under the stars and it was just magic, so wonderful. Sometimes friends would drive up there together in their own cars and park next to each other and each row had a rising "bump" you drove up on in order to get a good view of the huge picture show. But only the front end would be parked on that bump. Hahaha It was so much fun for all.
