The use of the term "the city" is interesting. To us in the greater New York City means NY City.
Tumbleweed · F
@samueltyler2 I live on the outskirts so to me, this is The City.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@Tumbleweed of NY?
Tumbleweed · F
@samueltyler2 No I'm in Virginia. On the outskirts
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@Tumbleweed is "The City" Richmond? or do you also consider it NY?
Jonjdw · 51-55, M
@samueltyler2 interesting. I don’t know what city she means. But when I think of city, I don’t only think of New York City. I live in eastern Pennsylvania.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@Jonjdw what is your city?
Jonjdw · 51-55, M
@samueltyler2 is there anywhere in Pennsylvania called a city? But there are cities city’s hoe ever it is spelled. Actually, I do live in a town and it’s called something city. But it’s just a town, not a city. Philadelphia and Pittsburgh are cities.
Tumbleweed · F
@Jonjdw Exactly. Any city is a city, not just NYC
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@Jonjdw yes, i understand that. I was admitting that to us in the peri-NY City area, we assume "The City" is Manhattan, not even the other boroughs. I was not downing other cities, i was asking a question about the debit the term. My daughter lives outside Philadelphia, although raised in Northern New Jersey, they align themselves with Philadelphia sports trans, etc, but when they say they are going to see a show in The City, they are referring to NY City.
Jonjdw · 51-55, M
@samueltyler2 I understand that and it’s interesting how different people, depending upon where they live reference things. I was not trying to be offensive. More curious.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@Jonjdw so was i. I still have that interest. Maybe i will set up a post and ask people to weigh in.

@Jonjdw that is an issue of how a place is incorporated. I lived in a Hamlet that for tax reasons changed its chartehr to become a township.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@SomeMichGuy wow, who is the parochial one now? Rather than discus the situation in which I asked a question, you found a need to attack me! Did you actually read my comments? Yes,black of body language may be a hindrance to interpretation, but attacking me is out of line.

@SomeMichGuy I am terribly upset by your comments. You really owe me an apology. Never once did I attempt to dictate anything to anyone, you are the one doing that, bringing in the religious angle is really out of line! I have no need to defend myself. good bye, have a great life

@SomeMichGuy i don't block people for their arrogance, only if I feel threatened, and your attitude is offensive to me, but not a threat. We are taking much more time and space on this thread for what was a simple question of mine, you blew it out of the water.

Well, I have already been there, near Pinckney, @samueltyler2; and also to Paradise, near where the Edmund Fitzgerald sunk.

I did not ask the denizens of other location if they humor you / validate your bias RE: "The City", but, being unaware of it until today, I really couldn't have done so (anachronism).

If I am ever in either location, would you like me to ask if they agree with you?
Kstrong · 56-60, F
@Jonjdw Pittsburgh, yes a city, but in comparison to Chicago, NYC, Philadelphia, Atlanta, San Francisco, San Diego, Dallas.... No comparison
@Kstrong There is no need to make ppl feel bad about where they are from or live.
Kstrong · 56-60, F
@SomeMichGuy wasn't trying to make anyone feel bad
@Kstrong Bull.

Pittsburgh, yes a city, but in comparison to Chicago, NYC, Philadelphia, Atlanta, San Francisco, San Diego, Dallas.... No comparison

Sounds as though you are telling the user to whom you directed that comment that a local "the City" in his state isn't impressive enough to make your list. I didn't see his contention anywhere that Pittsburgh was "the same as" NYC, just a recognition that "city" is a broad term...which you admitted in your opening phrase.

And what an odd list. The City of Hate? Would Pittsburgh move up in glory if a President were to be killed there?
