Both cameras are out of action

I dropped my camcorder and it is in for repairs. The zoom ring was knocked out of round so zooming is no longer smooth. Grabs and releases, affecting the smooth recording.
This morning I arose early for a possible sunrise photo opportunity. When I turned the camera on - “no memory card” appeared.
Card was there. I have gone through all the easy fixes, nothing worked.
Do I buy a new card and hope that is the issue. I do not want to buy another camera. The camcorder takes stills.
No idea how long the repair to the camcorder is going to take. It has been at the shop for 8 days now, no follow up as yet.

This might be a tough fix, yet see if you can reformat the memory card. I don't even know if your camera can do that. Probably not. Computers can though.

What happens is sort of like a computer hard drive format. It will completely wipe out what is there, yet should fix up your file allocation table with all the bad sectors marked.

You possibly have a bad sector in a critical area on your memory card.

Whatever you had on it will be gone though, if you reformat.

There are some places that might be able to retrieve whatever was there. Yet that would be very, very expensive to do so. Cheaper to just buy a new memory card.

@DeWayfarer Thank you for your advice. I reformatted the card on my laptop before posting here.
Issue was not rectified..
I knew all photos would be wiped. Will purchase a new card today.

These are the irritations of life that can spoil the day. I try to remember that with patience it will resolve itself, but its easier for me to tell you that than for me to accept it!
