Excellent rule!
I belong to a club that accommodates guests of the same interest.
One Saturday evening I was the sole member present in the club-house, alongside a single group of about twelve young people.
Their organiser was engrossed in a lap-top: possibly for work or study.
A couple in the corner seemed to be watching a film, on another.
All the rest were endlessly tap-tap-tapping, scroll-scroll-scrolling, on their 'phones.
No-one said a word. Nothing but an occasional, soft giggle from the film pair. All barely even looked at each other. None spoke to me; I felt unable to try talking to them, so found things to read instead. I wondered if they were conversing among themselves by text-message, having forgotten how to speak.
Eventually, after about two hours of this surreal isolationism, I retreated to the pub, seeking at least some casual conversation with someone; leaving the Silent Order Of The Hexadecimal in their hermetic little worlds.
Eerie......
