They thrived and evolved without them, went to the moon without them, cured diseases without them, and in general, did quite well without them.

So, put the dang things down when you are driving!

We now have the data from the space program, and we have powerful computers to analyze it. It's a miracle that we made it to the moon without any major incidents. The equipment should have failed.

We did cure diseases, but an emergency response team, would not be able to save the life of someone stuck on a mountain with a life threatening emergency, without them.

Granted that the world will keep on spinning if you had to wait 10 minutes to get home, on you to deliver a review of the restaurant where you just had lunch, instead of doing it while driving. But I don't know if I can wait until the dentist is done replacing my crown, to respond to a lunch invite.
