What's the point in having a phone then.

@Spoiledbrat It’s knowing there are priorities!
Spoiledbrat · F
@Quimliqer But parents can't get ahold of their kids on recess. It's pointless.

@Spoiledbrat back in the 70s if my mom needed to get a hold of me she would phone the school and they would page me over the pa system. we survived. i think in my 13 years of school i was paged probably less than 4 times
Spoiledbrat · F
@beermeplease I realize that but what's the point of having a phone if they can't even use it at least during lunch and recess.
beermeplease · M
@Spoiledbrat so they learn to interact socially, face to face with other humans is my guess. some years ago when i was 37 i went on a date with a 25 y/o. i guess she grew up with cell phones most of her life as throughout the entire dinner she couldn't put her phone down. just last year i was out with friends at a restaurant/bar. the table next to us had a party of six, i'm guessing in their 20s. 3 males, 3 females.at most points during dinner every single one of them was on their phone at the same time

@beermeplease I don't see the problem tbh. Times change. Phones were new to people then. People are more aware now and try to take breaks.

When I go to the doctor there is always that one person who can't stay off their phone but most people do. But it gets boring especially when a doctor is behind. I can't really say I blame them for looking. @beermeplease
beermeplease · M
@Spoiledbrat i wouldn't blame them either as long as they're not yacking up a storm
Spoiledbrat · F
@beermeplease One time I was at the doctor and a lady was watching videos on her phone and it was loud and someone else got upset and said it was rude.😄 It was kinda loud tho
beermeplease · M
@Spoiledbrat she probably was still watching when the doctor was examining her 🤣
Spoiledbrat · F
@beermeplease 😜

@Spoiledbrat If there's an emergency they can get a call through the office, like we got back in the day.
NativePortlander1970 · 51-55
@beermeplease @Spoiledbrat Exactly, socialization, a massive major reason why schools exist.
Spoiledbrat · F
@NativePortlander1970 Yes but this isn't back in the day. This is today. I have my prescriptions on auto fill. I get texted when they are ready to be picked up. It's so much easy not to have to phone them all in. Why bother the staff at the school ? Unless it's during class, I don't see what the big deal is.
Spoiledbrat · F
@NativePortlander1970 Kids still socialize.

Spoiledbrat · F
@NativePortlander1970 He's old.
NativePortlander1970 · 51-55
@Spoiledbrat He's only a few years older than @beermeplease and myself, and a former teacher.
Spoiledbrat · F
@NativePortlander1970 Everyone knows that old people get bitter about everything.
NativePortlander1970 · 51-55
@Spoiledbrat Or our sense of humor gets more wicked
Spoiledbrat · F
This is 2024 not 1950. @beermeplease
NativePortlander1970 · 51-55
@Spoiledbrat That's not an excuse to be rude.
Spoiledbrat · F
@NativePortlander1970 Look who is talking
beermeplease · M
@Spoiledbrat correct....and students should not allowed to bring phones into class especially, just as we weren't allowed to pass notes or use crib notes to cheat on tests
NativePortlander1970 · 51-55
@beermeplease Exactly
