It keeps it charged. There is no risk of "overcharging" but long term battery life can be reduced. Probably best to keep between 20% and 85%. There are power management settings that can limit the max. charge. Google "laptop battery charging limit."

1.Never leave a laptop charging or plugged in while you're gone.
2.Do not overcharge batteries.
Laptops have a bad habit for catching fire while charging, and burning your home to the ground.
