The wife says we need a second laptop.

Our current one is an HP so I want to stay in the Windows platform. What brand should we go with and what features should it have? She is a writer so there won't be any gaming.

All I can say is I have had 3 Acer laptops in the past and all have been reliable and excellent.
A great feature is a 'backlit' keyboard :)

@Nimbus That's great! I definitely agree on the backlit keyboard. Especially if you are working in the evening.

@Musicman Exactly!
Whichever make/model you choose check in the specs that it has it as not all do.

@Nimbus Is there any special should look for?
Nimbus · M
@Musicman Not really.
A good feature is a 17.3 inch screen.
I insist on them nowdays :)

@Nimbus Especially as we age and that small writing is hard to see. ☹️

@Musicman Exactly! :)

@Nimbus Acer has the worst costumer service on the planet, and they handed me a brand new laptop with a broken mother board. Took A YEAR before they fixed it.

My partner has no better experiences with Acer.

We have banned that brand from our lives. I get itchy in my body just mentioning it 😂
@Nimbus I prefer a 15.6 screen.

@Queendragonfly I can only speak of my experience with Acer laptops.
Each of my 3 laptops were run every single day of the year for many hours per day and lasted about 4 years each which is average for laptops.
I rarely maintained them to the degree that some people do and never resorted to conact Acer customer service.
I would have no hesitation in buying another when the time arrives.

@NativePortlander1970 That's OK.
My eyesight isn't as it should be.
@Nimbus I swear by Iolo System Mechanic Pro, that program kept my acers top notch, the problems why I had to get new laptops had to do with Windows stopping their updates with their older OS and forcing upgrades to a new one which would conflict with the hardware. So far I'm getting by on my Win10 dell, and they're not forcing Win 11 on my, but I'm sure the next one will be forced.

@NativePortlander1970 Thanks for the info, I will research it.
My new Acer came with W11 preinstalled and I have to say it took some getting used to after W10 but gradually I am becoming accustomed to it and can appreciate it's qualities more now.
@Nimbus You're so very welcome.

@Nimbus I agree I've 2 old Acer Laptops. Originally with Vista on one Win 7 in the other. Both running Win 10 now and must be over 12 years we've had them.
@OldBrit Both of my acers gave up the ghost when their power supplies failed and wouldn't charge their batteries anymore, I got new batteries for them, no dice, they wouldn't juice up.
