google search being censored & restricted

i saw an article years back about how thousands of google search results are pulled off the net every year.....and indeed in recent times when you search for something, it doesn't seem to bring back many relevant results? where as in the early 2000s the search results would bring back hundreds of thousands of results.

any thoughts?

I don't know about early 2000's being that I wasn't using google as a newborn but I do know that two big things happen, one is illegal stuff is filtered out or even things that may be illegal just to be safe.

The other is Google lets company's pay money to be sponsors and top of search results which can really mess up legit results.

This is why you can search for something specific and you get an ad as the top result that has nothing to do with what you actually searched for but it had key words that triggered it. Not just one ad mine you but often several trying to trick people into clicking.

What you say though sounds like it would of been so much better back then.
