can anyone give reassurance about my computer files

a year ago i tried to move 5000 picture files on my computer to another folder on my computer, but i got a pop up message telling me that this location already contains these files do i wish to merge them or cancel? so i clicked cancel at the time and all the files i was going to move disappeared from my desktop?

are those files still hopefully on my computer somewhere and they didn't accidentley get deleted?

im praying they never got deleted.
