pretty anxious- would i have lost any files performing this action

[c=A69800][i]on my desktop computer, windows 7, on the desktop i highlighted 189 files and selected 'cut' to move into a folder i created just now, also on my desktop....and i got a pop up message that it couldn't move the selected files for some reason....but all the files i highlighted vanished from my desktop and i checked the folder and the hundred and odd i cut seemed to be all in the new folder......but i'm not sure if every file off the desktop was in there?

would i have accidental deleted any of my precious media files forever?[/i][/c]
