Is there even something like a female DVI adapter?

I'm trying to adapt a DVI single link kind of monitor to a HDMI kind of computer, but searching for a fitting adapter, I only find those with male DVI single link or female dual link adaption. Now I bet that I can't just adapt single link by dual link as there'd be some signal missing. Or do I get anything wrong here?

Well, seeing as how Radio Shack is gone, your options may be limited on what you can find. But, I bet if you did a search online, even check and see if Amazon might have a female DVI adapter. I have a couple DVI adapters, but not sure if they're male or female connections.
