SSD lives more than HDD they said 🤔

SSD (111 GB)
Health: 78%
Power on time: 597 days 19 hours
Estimated remaining life: 746 days

HDD (931 GB)
Health: 100%
Power on time: 557 days 9 hours
Estimated remaining life: more than a 1000 days

As you can see they're 40 days apart.
They're both Western Digital brand. I don't really trust other brands. The SSD wasn't a cheap one. I thought it's supposed to live longer 🤔 maybe the heat affects it? Even though it's not mechanical like the HDD which in theory should be affected more but then the HDD is not fully plastic.

Someone is lying somewhere I guess but when it comes to performance that's a different story.

It could also depend on what kind of nand they are using as well. Like a lot are QLC anymore. Which have a lower life than 3D nand and TLC and SLC. From what I can tell this is a wd green drive which is the entry level ssd whereas the HDD is a blue drive which is the next higher up mainstream drive.
Also could be how the drives report their health cause ssd have a lot more detailed health reports than an hdd. So an HDD could be reporting 100% health even if the read head flies off the next startup. The SDD at least wont have a mechanical failure like that.
So a lot of different factors can go into the lifespan of one. But yeah some HDD can be hardly little buggers. lol

My experience is the opposite. I've seen HDDs failing in the most spectacular way, and yet, even SSDs I had since 2011(!) are still perfectly fine
@Elessar You checked their health with harddisk sentinel? That's interesting lol
But also my brother has a similar experience to mine.

@PiecingBabyFaceTogether I've never relied much on those S.M.A.R.T. scores, next time I turn the PC on I'll check

From what I've heard SSDs are supposed to be shorter-lived than HDDs. The tradeoff is SSDs are much faster. That's my basic understanding of it anyway. I've never had either fail on me yet.
