Anyone know anything about those Chromebook computers?

Any good?

Using a Chrome laptop right now. I like it a lot. For browsing the Internet, doing email, it's perfect. Starts up a lot faster than our other laptop.

@ThunderDome2 If I can adapt to Chrome, anyone can!

@Poppies Oh it's more a case of not much benefit really to getting one. Apart from I think they allow access to Google play store? not sure

@Degbeme It is a pretty silver, but more of a matte!

I think there's many an elementary schooler who beat the hell out of one in the past few years. They're tough little machines, it survived my kid last year in distance learning.

All depends on what you plan to use it for. They are great for browsing, watching movies, email, word processing, simple games, etc. They are cheap, they boot fast, they are relatively malware resistant and they tend to be pretty reliable, not getting upset every time something in their world changes.

Not much good for software development though and support for a lot of external devices is pretty limited. For example, trying to use one as a console for an embedded system is a bit of a lost cause due to lack of driver support for even a really common USB/serial converter.

Cheap and easy if you're doing it mostly for Internet browsing and you're OK storing everything in the Cloud.

@Harmonium1923 Yep, that's pretty much what I know about them, they are only good for a bit of browsing. Not really a match for a windows machine

Really depends on what you want it for

@MarineBob Just wondered if anybody had them here, they seem to be hyped up a bit as great lil compact laptops that are far superior to any windows laptop of the same type.
