Why does it take windows 10 almost 5 minutes and 30 seconds to boot? [I Love Computers]

From the time the lock screen shows at boot, I turned on my stopwatch on my phone. When I finally got to the desktop, it took 5 minutes and 25 seconds. That's a bit ridiculous, it never took Windows 7 Pro nearly as long to boot, maybe a good 3 minutes for everything to load in, before I could start using it.

I am booting with the standard 7200 RPM hard drive, not an SSD. So a couple of questions.

1) Why is windows 10 taking so long to get from the lock screen to the desktop at boot?

2) How does using an SSD make the boot time faster? And, is the difference in boot time between using a 7200 RPM drive and an SSD so noticeable that using an SSD is the better option?

Thanks :)

read speed of some cheaper SSDs is comparable to read speed of good hard disks.

ssd has MUCH higher response time, in few milliseconds, not the actual speed that matters the most. You can easily find HDD with max speed of 3gbps but it's the response time that really makes computer more responsive. Similar to flash storage you have in your phone

windows 10 actually has lower boot and shut down time BUT it updates very frequently so you need a better hardware for that

@mysteryespresso I've noticed that with 10, the shutdown time is drastically shorter than it is with 7, so that's a plus for me, as I shutdown the PC every night before I go to bed.

It's just that initial boot time that really gets me. Although, I've read comments at other websites where people are stating the boot time for 10 is oddly slow. I built this computer back in 2015, but the C:\ drive is at least 10 years old. It's a WD 500GB hard drive.

The only things I have installed on the C:\ drive is windows 10, motherboard drivers, and programs that default install to C:\. All other programs and games are all on other hard drives. I did it this way because it leaves the C:\ relatively free for windows to utilize.
