I have a question about my new IPad…

Unlike my old one, it doesn’t have a port to plug in a headset. That’s their thing now, they want people to use Bluetooth headsets. If you use new Apple products and have such a headset, I’d love a recommendation for one.

If you don’t use or like Apple products, you don’t have to weigh in here. 😉

It’s possible I won’t get many replies, but I thought I’d give it a go. 🙂

I don't know much about ipads. But most of the new Intel laptops only have a pair of USB C ports. And so there's a great market in USB C 'hubs' or 'docking stations' (those are the main names).

google for "USB C hub 6 in 1" or similar. If you have a Microcenter in your area, they might be able to let you test a hub. The hubs tend to have a headphone jack plus slots for camera SD cards, plus USB-A ports and HDMI ports.

P.S.: I don't know if an ipad can accept external monitors and/or mice & keyboards.

@ElwoodBlues This!

I have a USB hub myself which has multiple USB type adapters. Must say that mine doesn't have a headphone jack, yet I wouldn't doubt they come with one. Mine does have the micro SD card slot.

Motorola as well uses USB type C.

Another option is Bluetooth speakers and headphones of course.

I do have a 808 CANZ Bluetooth speaker that would work just fine on any Apple devices.

Samsung has gone the same way with no headphone ports. I don't like it. But yeah, with my phone and my tablet, I need to use bluetooth. 🙄

I use the Amazon Alexa earbuds (they would work with Apple as well). I like them because they have pretty good noise canceling to block out ambient noise and the battery seems to last a long time. I'm just worried about losing them. I can't wear them running unless I have a headband on.

But when running (or active) I still use wired earbugs. I bought a set that had the USB-C plug so it works in the new ports on Apple & Android devices. You just can't charge and listen at the same time which I would want to do at home.
@sarabee1995 I can’t use anything that goes in my ear, so that leaves earbuds out.
@bijouxbroussard sony over head bluetooth earphones, there's many options similar

@AbsolutelyFabulous Yup. I have a set of those as well. I do prefer the comfort of the over-the-ear headphones, but I cheaped out on mine and didn't get the noise cancelling ones. So now I primarily use the Alexa in-ear Bluetooth earbuds unless I'm running and then I use regular USB-C wired earbuds.
Huawei has great bluetooth earpods that could work if you don't want to get apple ones. I used to be skeptical about wireless earphones but I now can't imagine going back to wired ones. Mine can be connected to 2 devices at the same time and pretty much all the premium ones do have that feature.
Theres lots of options on amazon, my daughter just has ones that were €20 and she said they're perfect, she's using an ipad, as long as there's Bluetooth connection it will be fine

JBL and Sony have the best budget friendly options I’ve found. We go through the Bluetooth headsets around here lol

I got an adapter that plugs into the charging port. The other end has a receptacle for a headset.

@sciguy18 Yes ! That’s what I’m using now. There’s also an adapter with two ports that allows you to use wired headsets while charging the device:
They’re relatively inexpensive (many cost less than this) but unfortunately they don’t last that long.

You can get a head set with the lightning plug on it, or USB c.

Seems Apple wants you to buy a Bluetooth headset.

@bijouxbroussard I have a 5 yo iPad. Can still use both. iPhone 11. Only one port.
@jackson55 How do you do it with just one port ?
jackson55 · M
@bijouxbroussard I use my phone for a phone. I rarely plug headphones into it. Otherwise you have to use the charging port for headphones.
