So I think what Apple should do to satisfy both Data Retention and Data Security Advocates at once is the following.

I lean more towards Data Security Personally because I believe it's better to lose Data than for it to leak but iCloud Backups are not End-to-end encrypted in a Zero Knowledge sort of way.

So my Proposal for an alternative plan that leaves everyone satisfied is to enable the end user to decide for themselves if they want Encrypted Backups done by default.

I would def stress apple cannot help you if it's

end-to-end encrypted and you forget your key, but I would still recommend doing so.

Because like I said it's better to lose data than to leak it. There's no way to Weaken Encryption for Law enforcement either without weakening it for All Threat actors

I am one myself- I know how to use Decryption tools to break keys.
