how can i get all the data from this internal hard drive

i have an old hard drive here, sitting on a shelf, with thousands of music files and picture files on it....it crashed back in 2015 and the computer repair shop said the drive was so damaged, the data couldn't be rescued off it.....the drive was the 2 terrabyte drive in my windows xp computer at the time.

i would love to get all that data and have it copied onto a working ext hard drive....is that possible? how could it be done?

What kind of damage has the drive experienced?

@Lexmark1 i don't know , it just crashed and the repairs said the data off the drive couldn't be salvaged by data recovery.

@Jungleman eh tech has changed. If you have an external drive reader there are a couple options, one is called photorec in Ubuntu (Linux) very powerful and free. The other is Recuva its a windows tool that is also powerful and free.
