So, my girlfriend of fifteen years

Is gone. Moved out and taking her cat with her. My cat is hopelessly attached to her little mate and I'm worried that she will fret for her. My question is should I provide another cat for her to play with?

No. I wouldn't make a knee jerk reaction like that

She may well thrive on being on her own. How long do you think I should wait?

I personally would wait a few months before you decide if you still want to get another cat. Introducing new cats into a household can be very difficult, and you might find yourself regretting it.

@MrRandomguy10: I'm thinking that if a new addition is made it'll be after the holiday season. There will be plenty of Christmas throw away kittens. And I want to bond with my cat more, make her feel secure.
