I had a friend who had a possum for several years....the mother was killed on an electric fence, and the baby had fallen off. His wife took the baby home.
My friend is a dentist, and the baby was fed by syringe until he could eat solid food.
They kept him in a crate during the day & let him out at night. He’d sit on his “mommy’s” shoulder and watch TV with them.
Yes, he got to be big and scary looking....but he didn’t know any life other than that of a pet, and he was well behaved.
They would take him to the vet occasionally during his lifetime (which was about 7-8 years).
