I had to step in and put a cat down today.

I'm an animal lover and would never hurt an animal in any way. But a few days ago my Aunt who lives next to to me told me her cat is on its last leg. And she's going to give it Tylenol to put it to sleep. I was outraged. So I looked online to understand why some people use Tylenol to put their animal to sleep. So I read that it's basically poisoning the animal. But the animal should pass away in an hour. So I didn't go back to my aunts till yesterday. She said she put the pill in water and she seams to be drinking a little here and there. I picked the kitty up, and smelled an oder. FYI if you've been around any animal who is close to a natural death, they do tend to have a smell. So I held her and told my aunt she has that smell. She said she didn't know why the cat hadn't died yet and she will put another pill in her water tonight.
I went home, and the more I thought about it the angrier I got. She should just take her to a vet and have them do it, but I know my aunt would never spend money on an animal no matter the reason. So this morning I got up and was thinking to myself why the little cat didn't already pass away. Then it dawned on me that the kitty probably isn't doing ALL the water so she's near death but not dead yet. I went over to my aunts house again the poor kitty was still alive. I picked her up and here head lulled to the side and she was so week. The smell was unimaginable. So now I'm thinking the pill was probably shutting her organs down and already starting to go septic. I was pissed.... I told my aunt what she was doing wasn't working. She said.. Oh she'll die in another day or two. I said NO I'm stopping this right now. Knowing one pill should stop her heart, I got a little gravy and smashed one whole pill in it. I put in a syringe and told the kitty it would be OK in a few minutes. So I gave her the whole pill, and continued to pet her, she was still purring. But she got very relaxed and passed away. WHY DONT PEOPKE STEP UP AND DO THE RIGHT THING. THE THING THAT NEED TI BE DONE SO ANIMALS DONT SUFFER. THE HECK OF IT ALL, I WAS THE ONE TO GET HER SPAYED WHEN SHE WAS YOUNG, AND A FEW OTHER TIMES TO A VET. I am emotional already. I have panic attacks and have clinical depression, my dads death day is the 31st of October. I don't need another reason to be upset.
Seeing the pore cat will stay with me forever. Sometimes I hate humanity. Sorry so long.

I do ,I dig a hole ,I put its bedding in it
I make the cat or dog comfortable and I shoot it
pull the plastic in ,fill the hole ,put a stone on it so other animals wont dig it up
and I cry like a baby ..
I hate it ,,but we have lost our way ,,when something is suffering
watching it suffer is not humane
Its being to selfish to let it go

@rckt148 I've never had to kill an animal by my doing, but I have over the years taken many of them to a vet to put them down. I always stay with them so they feel secure and see me. I then bring them home, wrap them in a towel, blanket or even a small tote I put some sore of cross in there with them. Then dig a hole and say a prayer before I cover them up. And I also put a stone over them. I probably have 25 or so in my pet graveyard.

my girls used to bring road kill home and bury it in there too
My youngest has 35 cats she has rescued from people abandoning them
last weekend we were at a restaurant and a stray came up and I make a noise that scares cats ,,it ran away ,,I said baby I will shoot it if you bring home one more stray ,
Its not humane to be in prison when you have committed no crime
She has a huge kennel ,all the cats have their little houses ,
fresh litter EVERYDAY ..the best food money can buy ,it has all the minerals and vitamins ,she has to have that kind "the Vet says so "
She spent $1400.00 on 2 cats transfusions ,,someone locked them in a house ,they had no claws (thats why they couldn't turn them out )
but how long did they expect food to last ,,and they ruined this house
but fleas sucked them dry of blood
This was someone "Family " until the lease said "No Pets "
I am seriously considering shooting all the strays I see
The crank out more kittens ,our woods are full of them and they kill chickens and other live stock ,the farmers around here poison them like rats
Its a huge problem ,,cats have destroyed the EkO systems in several countries
You can google it
People turning feral cats out to multiply ,,I am at my whits end
we can't save them all

@rckt148 well that's not good to go killing cats. If they r ferrel, spay or neuter, then release them.

@melissa001 do you know how much it cost a month keeping up 35 cats ?
its over $150.00 per animal to take them to the humane society
our animal control officer said she went through her years budget in 3 months just on cats
if something is not done those farmers will load up with 4 wheeler and dogs and go on a cat hunt
We have wild turkey out here ,fox ,deer ,hawks and owls ,fox squirrels
but if cats kill their young ,all you see on these back roads at night are eyes ,cats and possums ,occasionally coons
but I am not letting my daughter add another one to that kennel
no one wants cats ,they want kittens ,,and so many of them die
its my granddaughter up all night nursing them crying and has to go to school the next day ,,she has some in her room right now she is nursing
We can't save them all ,,I keep asking people for a solution ,,
What else can I do ,,I am open for suggestions
don't say animal control or the SPCA ,they are over ran with them too

@rckt148 I have 3 cats, they cost me about 20.00 a month on food. And if they need a vet visit I take them.
Your Humane Society should provide u with vets that have discounted or free spay and neuter costs. They will clip one ear of the federal cat and u can return it to where u trapped it. I live in southern Indiana and people do it here all the time.

@melissa001 they are not like that here and that is why 2 of my daughters are over run with cats ,dogs and any other animal you can name ,my grandson recently rescued a turkey buzzard ,now fish and game did come get it and called him back and told him its wing was damaged but was making a full recovery and they expected to be releasing it soon ,he rescued a rat too but Papaw drew then line there ,he don't know I took care of the rat
But we do all we can ,15 days in the shelter it gets a shot and goes in the incinerator ,but they just charged you $150 to take it ,,thats why they save all of them they can because my daughter worked for animal control ,she is a Vet ,she got tired on putting down so many health animals
but her bill with 35 cats is why higher then $20 dollars and she has a special needs son and we have 2 teens living with us (not ours ) we support so they will finish high school ,,we had 5 ,my middle daughter has been a foster Mom to 25 kids ,they volunteer at the mission to feed the homeless they go door to door taking meals to 120 shut ins ,and take care of horses on a horse ranch ,,my kids never slow down and they are Nurses except the one thats a Vet ,,we do all we can ,but like I said ,,we can't save them all
I have begged every agency we know of for help ,they will only spay and neuter them and put them back in the same spot they were trapped ,that is not helping with all the ones that are in these wood wild ,and killing everything they can to eat ,
I wish I had answers ,,I don't ,all I know is my kid can't keep letting animal control put more cats on her ,and NO one gives discounts for their shots either ,,which all of them have ,and she gets them spay and neutered
Its a lot of money for someone thats not rich with a mortgage and 2 car payments and 3 kids still in school 1 of hers is a senior and 2 that aren't ours
And I get frustrated and say crap I don't mean ,,I can't just kill something I am not going to eat ,,at the moment anyway ,,I don't eat cat ,,LOL

@LadyGrace If you read my other posts I said ,I say things sometimes I don't mean and I repented for saying it
But the farmers here who are losing chickens ,their live stock attacked
I take it you don't know that as few as 5 cats can take down a goat and kill it ,,then they feast
Maybe more people need to read what stray cats have done to Australia
I am frustrated ,my kid is housing ,feeding ,getting them fixed and shots over 35 cats ,,she rescuers them
but now she is stuck with all those cats ,or she can pay to put them down ,which she would never do
You just have to be in my shoes I guess to know what I would say such a thing ,but I did say I didn't mean it ,,I don't just kill things
but someone else sure will ,I promise it wont be humane ,they will let the dogs and shot guns go on them ,,it is was my live stock ,I would too
You don't know what a problem they have become
