Are your pets polite?

Not only does BooBoo, one of my male parakeets, say “Thank You” but if someone hands something to another person and they don’t say “Thank You” he will remind them by saying it himself. He’s done it twice now.

Mine likes escort service men to the proper room. ie, had a plumber here and once she figured out he was working in the bathroom every time he walked out and attempted to walk in she led the way then moved aside right before entering so he could go in.

@curiosi The Boston Terrier I used to have was like that. We were having a new tub installed and it was a two-day job. I had to go to work, so I left them in the house and Bonnie was loose in it. When they returned the next morning, he told me, "You little dog kept coming in to see what we were doing."

I asked, "Do you want me to lock her away?"

"Oh, no, don't!" he replied. "I love dogs."

I was on my way out when I heard, "Hello, honey."

I turned around. He was crouched on the floor, and Bonnie was trying to climb into his lap and beating on it with her forepaws. She was delighted to see him again, I guess.

@curiosi I had another parakeet named Baby, he had a sassy streak in the things he would learn to say. One time a plumber friend was working on the kitchen faucet & he’d go out to his van to get a part and walk back into the house and Baby would yell “Bring it here!” And then he’d tell him “Hurry Up”...he did it the entire time time he was working on the sink, probably made 5 trips out to the van. Baby liked men and men’s voices more than women and would try to get them to interact with him.

@cherokeepatti Wonder why that is. My cockatiel, Ozzie, was used to my all-day voice, but let my youngest brother come in and start to make a fuss over him, and - wow! He got excited and started to bob up and down on his perch.

@MaryJanine I believe the males know they are males and want to bond with men. Baby loved to watch Westerns and Cop shows, he would say things like “Get out of here! Chit-Chit!!” Like he was making a shooting gun noise...I believe it was a combination of watching Charles Bronson movies & Westerns that got him to do that. He also like to listen to Dr. Phil.

@cherokeepatti When my mom was still alive, we had our first cockatiel by the name of Sam. My mom was a Western/cop shows and movies lover, too - and his cage was in the room where the TV was, so he watched with her. My mom loved "The Rifleman" especially because she had met Chuck Connors once in person) and Sam made gun noises whenever he heard them on TV.

@MaryJanine haha...I had a parakeet that would make a strange whistling sound and I didn’t figure it out until COPS came on one evening and he whistled to make the siren sound..that’s what it was.

@cherokeepatti One cockatiel used to watch Mary Tyler Moore and Rhoda with me and I didn't know he picked up anything until the end where the credits came on and the MTM symbol. He said, very seriously, "meow" like the cat on the screen. A couple of times to tease him, I said, "What does the kitty say?" and he replied again, "Meow".

@MaryJanine haha too bad you didn’t get that on video and put it on You Tube...those birds are really smart aren’t they?

@cherokeepatti This one was.Too bad indeed about YouTube...but at the time we had him, I didn't know what YouTube was and I had no computer...then.
