Dog owners, what should I know before getting a puppy?

Adding a dog to my home has been on my mind for the past year or so. Wondering if there's any advice I should know beforehand. 🤔

Edit: I should also mention my partner and I likely won't have kids so a dog would be my child with fur. 😅

Research your desired breeds traits BEFORE getting them.

Don't get a high energy hard to train breed if you're not going to meet those needs. Talk to people who have that breed.

Enroll in a puppy raising class. Learn how to understand dog language and communicate to them in a way they'll understand. Stay in obedience class for at least two full sessions/months. Don't just quit after puppy class. Socialization with other dogs is important for them too.
