Dog owners, what should I know before getting a puppy?

Adding a dog to my home has been on my mind for the past year or so. Wondering if there's any advice I should know beforehand. 🤔

Edit: I should also mention my partner and I likely won't have kids so a dog would be my child with fur. 😅

Love that dog. Make sure he/she knows your the alpha. Do not crate him/her, train instead. Make certain there is lots of excercise. Be aware of the breed. If he/she is a mixed breed, try and find out what. It makes a difference when it comes to the dogs needs.
Remember that you will take that dog through its life. And to him/her you are his/her life.
