What pets do you have and how did you come to have them?

I was adopted by a feral cat from the cactus patch, and she brought me her one surviving kitten, because I was leaving food out for another kitten that I rescued from the wash when it was almost dead. The original kitten never wanted to be friendly, but I now have two.
