So I finally found a dog breed that I actually kind of like.

@BlueMetalChick Yep, you don't "own" them you live with them and have to maintain a level of mutual respect, and not show weakness or you're seen as dead weight in the pack.

@Gh0s1 I used to own a raccoon. It was the same thing with him in the way that I didn't "own" him so much as he was like my roommate. If I mistreated him, he'd get very nasty and start clawing at me. And I can handle an angry raccoon if I need to but Jesus fuck are they mean. I don't want to have to pick one up while it's trying to sever my fingers with its mouth.

Should be the way for all animals to be honest. I have 2 ferrets in my house atm, nowhere near the ferocity of a racoon but fuck do they bite hard..can break bones with their teeth and they're still in training...which is fun 🙄

@BlueMetalChick Yeaaah. We have a small dog and I swera all the tolerable parts of her are from her dachshund parent, because the pug stuff is intolerable, lol.

@CountScrofula Pugs are one of those things that people either adore or despise.

@BlueMetalChick Yeah. They're kind of joyful and friendly but they're also sort of weird neurotic and desperate. Toy dogs rarely have winning personalities, lol. My big terrier and lab/pyrenees are just so much more chill and friendly. And the terrier is a terrified abuse victim who won't turn his back to me.

@Reject Probably a Brazilian mastiff, very aggressive, very territorial, athletic, hard to get along with, and illegal in many places.

@Jackaloftheazuresand They're so much more stoic than most dogs. They don't do that "happy excited dog" thing. That's the main thing that makes me hate most dogs, they're always panting and acting excitable and running around in circles and they wanna jump up and lick your face, or they're rolling over on their backs and wanting you to "belly rub" them. And I can't stand that stupid shit. But yesterday I visited a vintage clothing shop and the owner had a dalmatian in the store with him. And it was such a nice looking dog, it was lounging on the floor minding its own business. And then the owner called to it, and it so casually stood up and trotted over. It sniffed at me and looked at me, but it didn't bark and go crazy, and it didn't try to rub against me or get me to pet it. I liked it a lot.
