@BaxtersMomma I always took in strays and I guess its in our DNA
Now 2 of my kids have no kill sanctuaries ,they take in animals no one wants .
But it can quickly turn into a problem ,they have lots of animals but Cats ,God all the cats
They spay and neuter all of them (they actually have the tools to neuter them themselves (females need surgery )
So people want pets until they move and the new place won't allow animals
They have rescued many just left behind inside a home left to starve to death and someone calls and ask will they take them .
it cost my girls as much to feed those animals as their families there are just that many ,,but they won't allow them to be killed ,they keep looking for them good homes .
But we are animal lovers as well as people ,we especially have softs spots for the ones that no one wants ,,everything just wants love
But dogs don't care if someone beats them ,that tail is always wagging
But I do advise anyone ,,if you do not know the animal use caution
Some will bite with no warning and if they have not had their shots
there could be a very painful lesson to follow ,rabbi shots are still painful

I used to volunteer at our local animal shelter, walking the dogs, washing their food and water bowls, cleaning their litter boxes, etc. I loved it! ...but my walking ability has gotten very bad (diagnosed with MS in 2005) so I had to quit the walking/standing that had to be done at the shelter. I did a lot of office work but I missed the interaction with the animals.
But I still love my pets! I even give my Dad's cat insulin twice a day. Not a fun job but pets are 'family members' and you do what you have to to make their lives comfortable, happy, and healthy.
