When they are terminally ill, or when they are suffering so much on a daily basis, because of age. There's nothing worse than watching an animal suffer, just because we want to keep them around. That is natural, yet why let the poor thing suffer? It is a hard thing to die. Hard as it is, it is a humane and loving thing to help an animal out, when they are suffering and struggling so bad for the next breath or hurting beyond all understanding.
