@Vgore0304 As with any dog, it depends upon genetics and training. If they aren't inbred or wired wrong from day one, and they have a responsible owner, they are a great companion dog. That being said, I wouldn't recommend a pitbull to someone who has small children. As with ALL dogs, they need to be monitored around kids. PBs are very strong and can easily knock over and hurt a small child. They do require an owner who is familiar with the breed and willing to put in the time to train them properly.

FYI, the one in my avi was the best dog I've ever had. I've owned and fostered a lot of dogs. She used to help me retrain the fosters so they could be adopted into new homes. Extremely smart and loving breed.

@Vgore0304 So was I, along with German Shephards, Rottweilers, & Dobermans. Then my father adopted a pitbull from a shelter. He was the original wonder dog! Sweet beyond belief. That's when I realized there was more to the breed than what I'd been told. I started researching breeds along with training. That's also the time when I started getting involved working with shelters and retraining problem dogs for adoption into new homes. With the large breeds like the ones I've mentioned, it's really in the training and being a responsible owner. Too many people do the wrong things by these dogs.
