ugh i'm stressin

my lab's previous owner was my ex roomie/bestie. she kept him in a crate too small for him fr 24/7. i was the only reason he left the crate. she and her cousin haven't watched my snap story in A YEAR. i knew ex bestie wasnt following me, i assumed her cousin wasn't either. today i posted him zoomin through the yard with my roommates poodle and said "his whole world used to be a crate". her cousin watched it. so anxious she showed/told ex bestie

in particular because... timeline.. she said i could have her dog when i told her i was moving. cousin changed ex besties mind, and she said after she had her baby she would come back for him. i reluctantly agreed to this over text but ended up pushing back over text, then in person she agreed to let me take his full ownership again. coming back "in a year" would be around this time and she's always been a worry in the back of my mind

i don't even know why she wanted (wants?) him. she never made time for him, couldn't afford him, her boyfriend didn't want him. those were big issues already. and then, after all that, she learned she was having an unplanned pregnancy. and frankly he shouldn't be around a baby/toddler imo

Get him chipped and registered in your name... possession is nine tenths of the law. The cops aren't going to waste time with this - they'll tell her to take it to court and let them decide.

If she's got 1/2 children, she's hardly going to have that much time to invest in court and dog ownership anyway - so she could decide that it's more hassle than it's worth and she'll just get another dog.

@HootyTheNightOwl fortunately his chip has had my name since mid april. made sure to get that done as soon as i could to prepare for this
@Frostcloud There's not much she can do, then... the dog is registered to you at your address and you have the chip ID number and everything else to prove that you have been taking care of him for all this time.
