Mastiffs-Cane Corso

Anyone on here have experience with owning mastiffs? Of any breed? Preferably different types of mastiffs?

My dream dog is a cane corso. However I am still on the fence over whether or not a cane corso would be too much for me to handle. While I have taken care of large dog breeds before, I have never owned or raised one, only small dogs. So I am thinking before a cane corso I would like to start with a large breed that is beginner friendly. Preferably some sort of mastiff but I suppose any large breed would do. I could use recommendations for that.

One thing I am wondering is about the athleticism of the cane corso. I am not an active person. I'm fine with taking dogs on daily walks of course, even twice daily if needed, but I could never handle something like a husky or a doberman that need hours of exercise or for you to run miles every day or that need a job. I keep seeing mixed info on this breed, some saying it is active and some saying it does not have high exercise demands.

Another thing I'm concerned for is owning a "dominant" breed. I have had a corgi before who was highly dominant both towards people and dogs and she knew who she respected and who she didn't, and even with those she respected she had boundaries. This lead to some aggression issues with her. I would want to be sure to curb and avoid this in such a large and powerful dog as the cane. But I don't really know how. Any tips for doing so or resources anyone could provide on how to do so? (Aside from heavy socialization and all that).

Also if I am not a good fit for a cane corso, is there any mastiff I would be a better fit for?

Thank you!

If you are not active I wonder if you can handle the needs of a Cane Corso. I don’t think that’s the right pup for you to get now.

Try fostering a dog, a 60 pound mixed breed pup first. Good luck

Beautiful dogs.
Very loyal, and protective to their family, but not for everyone.
Do your research.
Search YouTube for "Bruce Wayne Cane Corso".
This guy pulls no punches.
Never bite off more then you can chew.
