I'm looking for a big breed dog with a long lifespan. [I Dogs]

For service dog work. I currently have a swiss mtn mix he's amazing. But starting to think about what I'll do when he retires in the future. Any ideas?

I think Rotts are over looked too often for this type of stuff.
If you look at their breeding they aren't like a pit bull, like they always seem to get viewed as.
Loyal.Smart. Great with kids and are very family oriented. Tough and protective.
One down side is they tend to over heat easy.
They tend to get about 100 lbs and are lean.
You can get about 11 years out of one before they start to break down.

@Dainbramadge my friend has a rottie service dog. Here's my fear. I need mobility assistance..... They aren't from what I understand built for that.

@Rosiechick13 Not sure what you mean by mobility assistance.

@Dainbramadge so I need help from mine to keep me upright. Loki kinda hip checks me when I loose my hip into the nearest thing to grab. He also gives forward momentum when I need it. And helps me up if I fall

@Rosiechick13 If I read this right you need a sturdy balanced dog. Rotts are very sturdy. Strong like an ox. They were also breed to be heard dogs. They are used to using their bodies to push things around.
Did I interpret you correctly??

@Dainbramadge you did! I didn't think they actually pushed stuff that's awesome.

@Rosiechick13 I owned one and he was the perfect dog. My ex-wife wrote a paper about rotts for school and we learned a lot about them.
I always thought of them as an old school pit bull but ours never acted like one.
He was very muscular. About 98 lbs. Loving as all get out.
They first breed them around 980 A.D. for heard dogs.
I had a lab at the same time and he would get excited when people would come over. The rott would heard him into a corner and keep him there until I yelled at him to let Moe go or until the lab settled down. LOL
They were also breed to be able to kill wolves so they can be aggressive when needed but they were also made to be family dogs.
Ours loved out kids as soon as we brought them home unlike the Lab.
Zeus was his name.
He would lay under the rocker and when the baby started to cry he would run to me all excited like he was expecting me to do something about it. LOL
I just really think Rotts get under appreciated.
Such a great breed.
I'm not really interested in ever getting another dog because the lose is way to much to handle ever again, but if I were to it would be a Rott.

@Rosiechick13 Oh, I didn't mean to come off like I dislike Pits.
I think as far as what you mentioned you were looking for a pit is too short. LOL

@Dainbramadge they are although I had one that was massive

@Rosiechick13 The father to my Rott was the biggest dog I have ever seen.
My mom always had St. Bernard's and this Rott was bigger than any of them.
They had a normal height fence only it was solid wood. I could see that dogs head over the top of that fence. LOL
His head looked to be the size of my torso. HA ha ha ha!!!!!! Like a damn horse.
