While not a believer in psychic matters, animals can surely sense things we cant, chemically and in body language. Dogs are particularly tuned to our moods and needs. Cats generally (although I am sure I will get comments saying "my cat is different) are equally able to sense things, but generally dont give a sh*t unless it concerns them..😷
MoveAlong · 70-79, M
@whowasthatmaskedman The chemical thing is true. It's been proven and peer reviewed that many animals sense the pheromones given off by fear.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@MoveAlong And there are drug sniffer dogs. And even those who smell cancer in a person before its diagnosed..Or pregnancy..😷

Yes. I remember staying at my cousin’s who is like a sister to me the night before a DNC. I lost a baby at 4mths from an accident. Her dog who only slept with her normally slept with me all night, she wouldn’t leave my side. I’m not big on pets close to me, but she was different. Really sweet and she def sensed something.
mossyboots · 51-55, F
@MellyMel22 I think animals can be very sensitive, more than we give them credit for.
ArishMell · 70-79, M
No, except only to the extent that different species have broadly the same senses but to very different ranges and sensitivities.

No cat, nor any other animal, including human, could possibly have predicted the disaster but cats will move home for themselves and their litters as they see fit.

Most likely here, the ship was now taking on a huge number of people so becoming too crowded and noisy for the animal. Previously the only occupants had been the operational and "hotel" crews, and the cat had become used to the fairly small number she saw.

Also, she may have been recruited as "rat catcher" but would a brand-new ship operated to high standards host large colonies of rats when practically brand-new? I don't think so, and the cat may have wiped out the few rodents that might have sneaked on board.

The departure of the crew-member was just by his own superstition, but in the event of course it likely saved his life.
...

(There is a brief moment in the highly-fictitious film "Titanic", showing a large number of rats running along a corridor. I list that among assorted other unlikely incidents, right up to the lovers cavorting at the prow.)

I remember being told this story in a shop in Southampton when I was about 14, an old second hand shop that stocked a lot of Titanic memorabilia.
I was always fascinated by that ship after learning about it at school.
I think animals have a few different senses to what we humans have and one could be sensing danger, although that cat must have had super powers to predict the ship's fate at that stage 😆

Yes, I have no doubt of it. I've heard and read of Jenny's story, and I do believe she sensed something that troubled her....that something wasn't right. Not exactly what was going to happen to the ship, though.
Convivial · 26-30, F
It's possible... It's also possible the coal fire that was burning in one of the bunkers and had been for some time was what she was escaping... I've often wondered how far their senses go...
MoveAlong · 70-79, M
I believe animals are very perceptive and more intelligent than people give them credit for.

But ESP? No, I don't believe that.
Boeing · 36-40
I mean I'm sorry I laugh but it's because of the title 🤣 TITANICAT ?!!!
The story is great though and yeah I trust in animals.
mossyboots · 51-55, F
@Boeing Yes, a good story, and the crew member saved his own life in thinking Jenny sensed impending doom. Maybe people were more superstitious back then than they are now.
Boeing · 36-40
@mossyboots I know for once that cats get a sickness on boats and that is why they don't keep them there. They get easily seasick, it makes sense if you see how sensitive they are..
Of course! They hear things outside our range of audible wavelength and things that are too quiet for us.
They see things we missed. They smell things we can't notice.
The canary was taken until the coal mine on purpose!
HowtoDestroyAngels · 46-50, M
Most definitely.
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
Earthquakes, seizures , etc..
ArtieKat · M
I do think animals have heightened powers, not sure about clairvoyance though
mossyboots · 51-55, F
@ArtieKat "Cross my palm with silver and I will tell you your future .."
fun4us2b · M
For sure - they pick up on everything...brilliant creatures!
Soon after Jenny was found working at the local circus as a fortune teller.. "FORTUNE CAT"

Yeah... It's part of how they survive, case in point.
Virgo79 · 61-69, M
I believe they know more that we'll ever find out
Lilymoon · F
There's a reason they were worshipped in Egypt. 😸
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
Yes but not in this case. No animal could have predicted a human mistake.

YoMomma ·
they can, its a fact
MethDozer · M
The evidence is undeniable and verfiable.

The only question is if they have an extra ability we don't or if the ability is just dulled out of us through conditioning.
