I think the kitten is a girl. I’ve always struggled to figure out the sex of a kitten. With dogs, it’s very easy. With adult cats, it’s easier. But her coloring I think is what gives it away. She looks like a tuxedo cat but has a half orange face. And a true tuxedo cat has only black and white markings. A calico cat has black white and orange. The vast majority of calico cats are female. It reads online that “ The coloring is due to the genetics of the X chromosome. Since female mammals have two X chromosomes (\(XX\)), and the gene for orange or black fur is on the X chromosome, a calico cat can have both orange and black patches show up in its fur. Male cats have one X and one Y chromosome (\(XY\)), so they can only have one color of fur at a time, making calicos extremely rare.”
