Toy size Chihuahuas?

Our daughter Clara is six years old and has extreme dwarfism. Because of this she is 1’5” tall and 18 pounds.

Would you have any suggestions for a family dog that would be fine around Clara? Ideally we would want her to be able to walk the dog on a leash with us closely supervising of course while we are out, and also a dog that she can play with in the backyard or in the house and not have to worry about getting knocked over, overwhelmed, etc Any suggestions here?

I’ve only grown up with larger dogs, but of course given Clara‘s size we want to make sure that she is safe and joy being around the dog. So if you have any experience with smaller dogs please share. Ideally we would like Clara to be stronger than the dog. in your experience with these dogst would a toy size Chihuahua be too much for someone like Clara? Or would it be just the perfect dog? How are they in terms of strength and weight, do you think someone like Clara would get knocked around by a dog like this?
