in the mid 1980s sometime, me and my mum/ dad and sister went to see a play at a theatre in basingstoke, where we stayed at a countryfied lodge, and i remember there was bats flying around the trees at nightfall.
The rare times I see one or more flying around before or after sunset, I feel comforted that they are there and surviving...still.
I remember when I was a child, and people were sort of conditioned to be afraid of them. I feel ashamed of my child self, for once being one of a group of neighborhood kids who threw a rock up in the air at bats flying around above.
@durinsBane1983 Yes. Although none of the kids ever actually hit one, it was an awful thing to do. A very out of character thing for me to do, for sure. I was normally the one trying my best to stop anyone from hurting any creature big or small, including bugs.
I figure that's why I remember that over 60 years ago instance, with shame.
