That does happen. 😊

Sheba finally gave up on growling at a certain other cat. Sort of worked with it on keeping other cats away.

They still kept their distance though. Sheba's territory was primarily close to my place, except when I walked her.

Awwww.. that's a terrible situation to be in. I had a dog who loved to bark at the squirrels. I never knew what a nuisance she was because if she ever barked much when I was home, I'd tell her to shush and she would.

One day I came home to a mean, anonymous note about her barking and their suggested resolution if i didn't quiet her (they said they'd poison her).

I was on really good terms with all my neighbors and thought it had to come from the neighbor to the back, whose address is on the next street over. He had that block captain way about him and came off as a bit bossy when I'd introduced myself to him a few years earlier when we moved in.

Whoever it was, I was furious that they would make such a threat so anonymously as to make all neighbors within earshot of my dog suspect. They really put a damper on my whole neighborly experience.

Anyway, I was always against bark collars, the ones that zap the dog whenever they bark. When I did some research, I found one that sprays citronella up in their face every time they bark.

I put it on her before I went to work and she was just about cured of her annoying barking habit by the time i got home from work, but I left it on her for another day.

We had two dogs and the other one would jump away when she would bark to get my attention on the first day.

Later, the one who'd left the note apologized for writing it and thanked me for addressing the issue, and it wasn't anyone who I ever suspected. First of all, their house isn't really in direct earshot of my backyard, with a large ridge of earth between my backyard and their property. I think she locked on and then it was all she could hear but wouldn't be noticed by her husband.

Secondly, I'd given them a lot of free plumbing and plumbing advice that stopped their property from eroding away

We had two dogs when I was growing up and had a fenced in back yard that they couldn't see out of. If they were out there and one of the neighborhood dogs barked, they would bark back and then all the neighborhood dogs had a conversation. It was so fun to see it start. They were absolutely telling each other stuff. 🤣

My neighbor's dog barks all day. I've also heard him bark around 4am. Wish he could be devocalized or rehomed. 😒

I have friends whose dog was poisoned (fortunately not to death) by a mentally unstable neighbour. It’s very unsettling to be in such an unsafe situation.

Couldn't have been a better outcome. 😊

To me anyway, "devocalizing" is as cruel a mutilation surgery as declawing a cat.
@Piper Yes.
