I remember when I first knew my friend Rio…
(he and his wife are parents to my godson)
Both of them really love animals; since I’ve known them they’ve had dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, chickens, tree frogs (that was weird 😅). Amazingly, they all got along.
One day, an acquaintance was saying that her beagle was making so much noise that her landlord (she lived in a studio apartment) had received complaints and was ready to evict her. She was talking about "devocalizing” the dog. Rio looked horrified. "Does that mean what I think ?” I asked.
Rio replied, "It does.” To the woman he said, "Aww, don’t mutilate him.”
She got a little defensive and replied, "So can we come stay with you when we get evicted ?”
Just then Rio’s cell rang and he excused himself for a moment. I could tell that it was Michelle (his wife).
The woman said to me, "people are quick to judge, but they can’t offer solutions !” It was awkward.
Rio returned. “If you’re willing to re-home the dog, we’ll take him. We have a house, a large yard, and distance from our neighbors. And you can come visit him whenever you want,”
he told her.
After thinking about it for a long time, she agreed, and visited regularly.
The funny thing was, Barney the Beagle was still vocal but considerably less so at Rio’s house. I think the other dogs told him to be quiet. 🤔
