I stopped at the mall shelter today (I do it every time I visit the mall) and said hello to the cats.
One kept pacing in its cage, nonstop, like it had infinite energy. I tried to get its attention and it sometimes would pause. They do not allow people to touch the cats, though, to prevent disease transmission. It wanted to be pet. It meowed and even started purring, but kept on moving. Dizzying. Poor thing.
And I do not want to clean up after one, or keep it indoors it's whole life (outdoor cats are not allowed in my apartment). Also, what do I do when I go on vacation? I suppose there are kennels. I just looked it up and Google calls it a cattery. Ha ha!
We had some cats when I was young and they were outside most of the time in nice weather. We lived in a house in a neighborhood with green yards.
Bring stuck in an apartment all the time seems cruel to me. I go nuts. But maybe a cat would not, if it is all it knows.
I only developed allergies to cats and dogs later in life. I learned to avoid them.
@JoyfulSilence I understand not having a pet when you have allergies. It’s nice that you still go to visit them. I have pretty strong feelings about mall pet stores. But I used to do the same back when I was living in college housing and couldn’t keep my pets with me.
This is not a traditional pet store, like in the olden days. Those all went out style long ago and closed long ago.
Rather, this is run by the ASPCA. They mostly sell merch, but have some cages with cats, rabbits, mice, rats, and guinea pigs. They have more, and of course dogs, at their main off-site shelter.
The cats are never there long. I go about 3 times a month and there are always different cats!
From a few years ago
This one was in the front display window, not a cage. The shelter is in and old clothing store.
Yeah, my cat squints her eyes at me when I do, but sometimes the songs are about her being a pain the arse, lol. Mostly they're about how beautiful she is, tho
