Does it hurt cats to clip their nails?

I have a lovely cat that doesn't scratch enough to shed his claws, despite having gotten him several different materials to scratch. His nails grow super long, and twice he got one stuck in his paw, so now we get them clipped once a month. I wonder if this is ok for him? I know that declawing a cat, which is when you completely remove the cats nails, causes both physical and emotional discomfort, but I don't know how he feels about having them clipped occasionally?

I’m scared to death to do it so I take her to the Vet tech about once a month

@Kiesel We also took our cat to the vet the last two times, but I found a groomer nearby, and I'm thinking of trying them out. I think our vet is a bit annoyed that we come to him for something we could do ourselves in theory. 😅

@Nightwings good groomers should be able to do it and know how…
I’d think..
They do for dogs I believe

@Kiesel I would think they have experience with it, but I'm gonna ask about it. I'm not sure how common the problem of the cat not scratching enough is, but I bet some people have their cat's claws clipped for other reasons, like cats scratching furniture.

@Nightwings I have scratching posts for mine and she uses them routinely
Never uses furniture fortunately

@Kiesel Is it still not enough for her to shed her claws naturally? Mine does scratch too, we actually even have a routine so that he does it every day before his dinner, but apparently it doesn't help. /=

@Nightwings well.. I never notice they’ll shed. They just get longer and sharp as hell… so, I’ll get em trimmed
